During the one-day seminar on Kidney Transplant Updates seminar in Sina Hospital, Dr. Pourmand, Chairman of TUMS Urology Center and Dean of Sina Hospital, noticed the 10% increase in cadaver kidney transplants and referred to the effective role of mass media in educating their audience.
Referring to transplant as the best alternative for treating kidney dysfunction patients, he further added that since there are a large number of such patients in our country, the Urology Center aims at holding similar seminars for educating and encouraging people so that cadaver transplants can be used instead of live donors. He mentioned the educational programs in the field and clarified that organ donation by brain deceased patients has become a serious issue only in the few recent years following the approval of the Parliament. Moreover, the mass media had a late start for publishing the concept and still is not satisfactorily active. It is to be noted that despite the mentioned points, the activities and attitude of organ donation is constantly moving forward.
He also mentioned that according to statistics, the growth will gradually become more evident as we are witnessing the spread of the brain-deceased organ donation attitude among some regions as well as the increase in the rate of cadaver from 1-2% to 10%.
